I have a goal to lose weight this year. I would love to say I decided to lose the weight because I was motivated to start out the new year healthier, or because I want to get fit, or because I want to look better for summer... but that is not the case. Even Kelly's "cardiac event" wasn't motivation enough. My life is never a simple choice, because what is the fun in that?
My motivation came last Friday at the Barnes and Noble bookstore by my house. I had received a gift card for Christmas from a co-worker and was ready to spend it. I saw a food diary that caught my attention (because it had an awesome picture of a beach on it), and picked it up. I had heard they helped you lose weight... Who was I kidding, I would never stick to it, but I picked it up and carried it around anyways. I found Kelly in the cookbook section and showed him the diary. He said it was a good idea but I didn't need it. That made me want it more. He said that if we followed his diet we would lose tons of weight... blah, blah, blah... I hate it when he gets that way... Typical New Yorker thinking his way is always the best way. So I got irritated and basically told him to put him money where his mouth is.
So, after a few ground rules, we came up with a competition (YAY!!) to see who could lose the most weight in 60 days. Winner gets $100. GAME ON!! I love to complete and win. So we started on Sunday and I can't wait to step on the scale on Sunday to see who is winning.
I like this competition because no matter who wins, we both lose (weight). We both need to get healthier and I am glad we are finally doing something about it. (By the way, I didn't but the diary... why spend $$$ on that when I have a nice notebook at home??)
I have set a healthy goal of 3 pounds a week for 8 weeks, bringing me 24 pounds closer to my goal weight... which is still a long way away. My long term goal is to fit into the clothes I have from college in my storage unit again. So I traded in candy for carrots, McDonald's breakfast for yogurt and apples, and Diet Coke for water and Crystal Light. 3 days in and I'm not sick of it yet!!

Good for you, Whit! I'm trying to lose weight, too, and it's not easy. I hope you will reach your goal!
You two are too funny! I'm excited for you both! Maybe after your first 90 days...we could go lynnwood vs Monroe...or boys vs girls! Yay! a whole year of competition!
I love Crystal Light!! It sounds like a great plan, especially doing it together! Good luck!
